I’m an Adventurer! ~Musou Skill is Plane Magic~ - Chapter 125
First, I threw a fist-sized stone that I had picked up from the seabed toward the north from the port side of the boat. The stone flew in a slow parabola, and when it was about three meters away from me, it disappeared into the sky as if it had just blended in. I don’t hear the sound of it falling into the water.
Next was a jellyfish with a string tied around it. These are called Beni kasa kurage (jellyfish), and they can be found anywhere in the southern part of the Lute Sea. The kasa is not a rain umbrella, but a hat worn on the head. It’s the one without the flowers of the Hanagasa Festival. The tentacles extending from the edge of the kasa look like frills. It might be a little fashionable. Normally, they’re white, almost transparent, but when they’re attacked by foreign enemies, they emit a red liquid to create a smoke screen. So it looks like a venicasa, or octopus. They’re non-toxic, but not very tasty. That’s all the information I got from Anya.
Samantha tied the string she was holding to the still-living jellyfish and threw it into the sea in the same way. It suddenly disappeared about three meters away. When she pulled on the string, the jellyfish tied to it appeared as if it was coming out of the smoke. There was no resistance. The jellyfish seems to be in good health. It is spitting out red liquid.
I used plane magic to create a five-meter cylinder and held it out in front of me. The cylinder, which was extended smoothly, disappeared after about three meters, and its tip melted into the void. When I brought it back, there was no sign of any change, and it remained about five meters long.
Hmm, no effect on the creature. Magic works just fine. It’s not like it’s physically disappearing, it’s just that you can’t see beyond it. In other words, ……
“Is it optical camouflage or spatial projection?”
“Optical camouflage……? I’ve never heard of it.”
“Well, in other words, you’re being shown an illusion.”
“Then, I know what it is mya!”
“If you use difficult words, it makes it harder for me to understand you.”
“…… got a little smarter.”
Hmmm. I guess the advanced technology of modern science fiction is just one of the old methods used in the fantasy world. I heard that ghosts attack without whispering, and warp and teleportation are lumped in with transference magic. Fantasy is not kind to science fiction.
I’m still not sure if this is optical camouflage or not, but let’s call it optical camouflage for now. This optical camouflage is apparently not dangerous. The next step is to find out how big it is and how far it exists.
I scattered white particles with no physical properties over a wide area from the ship to the north. The area where they disappear is the boundary.
Ooh! Even the sign of the particles has disappeared! The particles themselves probably aren’t disappearing, judging by the appearance of the cylinder earlier, so the magic inside is probably imperceptible. But this is good. Thanks to this, I can clearly see the range of the optical camouflage.
As I moved little by little, I examined the optical camouflage, and it seemed that it continued in a hemispherical shape from the ocean floor to the sky. Its radius was about two kilometers. It’s probably magic, but it’s quite large. It’s just within the effective range of my plane magic. Why would something like this be in the middle of the ocean? Even if it’s definitely to hide something, what could possibly need to be hidden on such a large scale? My adventurer’s curiosity is piqued!
Well, now it’s time to infiltrate the cameras and microphones. We’ll have to check the inside before we go in. From the looks of it, I don’t think there’s much danger inside, but we’ll have to be careful. Adventure and recklessness are similar, but different.
The camera slowly approached the optical camouflage and then made contact with it. At that moment, I couldn’t perceive the camera. I don’t even know the coordinates. For a moment, I thought the camera had disappeared, but I could still see the image on the monitor plane at hand. I motioned the camera to the left and right, and it worked fine, albeit a little annoyingly. In other words, it didn’t disappear, it just became imperceptible. I don’t know what the trick is, but it’s a little troublesome.
The monitor showed us an island and a graveyard of ships.
Decaying ships of all sizes were piled up on top of each other, exposing their cruel appearance. They seemed to vary in age, from rotten wood to something that could be moved with a little repair. Seriously, the Bermuda Triangle?
At the far end is an island that’s not that big, maybe two kilometers in diameter. In the center of the island is a mountain about 200 meters high, shaped like Mt Fuji. Is it a volcanic island? Even if it is, it doesn’t seem to be active at the moment because there is no smoke coming out of it.
Neither the island nor the ship could be seen from the sea. There was just a flat sea floor. I guess this was also hidden by optical camouflage. But the current was changing along the topography, so the submarine might be moved by the current.
The hills were covered in green. They looked like a mixed forest of broad-leaved and coniferous trees, like a Japanese satoyama. This is a rare sight in the rainless Lute Sea. There must be an abundant water source.
And there were birds flying over the mountain. They are quite large. Are they ospreys or kites? Or albatrosses because they were white?
“What is it? It’s a bird with a shape I’ve never seen before. Can’t you move it closer, bochan?”
“Okay, I’ll try it.”
I pull the camera closer to the island. It’s frustrating that I can’t move the camera by feel like I usually do. There’s also a slight time lag because I’m looking through the monitor. It was a little stressful. I wonder if this is what it’s like to operate a drone?
The island gradually gets bigger, and the wreckage of the ship around it. And the birds flying over it …… birds?
“It’s not a bird! It’s a Siren. A monster!”
“Oh, so this is the Siren. I’ve never seen them before.”
It was definitely a monster. Its overall form was that of a bird. It was a huge bird with wings that were probably over five meters long. Its body color was white. However, it is obvious from the chest and head that it is not a bird. What was there was a human being, one that looked very much like a woman.
I know the Sirens, too. They are half-human, half-bird sea monsters. With their beautiful singing voice, they deceive sailors and lure them to their nests, where they eat them, I think. Some say they are half-man, half-fish, a different kind of mermaid. It’s a monster that occasionally appears in games. They’re not always in the first class, but they’re occasionally called up from the second class. As I recall, in a famous anime about monster, it was called Sirene. It seems to be read in French.
“So this isn’t a humanoid species either, it’s a monster? It looks like a human, though?”
“Yes, these monsters are a race that only produces females, and they kidnap males from other human species to have children. It’s the opposite of goblins. Incidentally, the Sirens are said to be a subspecies of the Harpy that lives on land.”
“Hmm. But unlike the Harpy, the face is rather nice, isn’t it? I’m sure there are guys who would be happy to follow them. I’m not into that though.”
I’m pretty sure the Harpy’s face was ugly, but these ones are rather nice. And they’re showing off their tits. They’ve got some pretty impressive stuff.
But I’ll pass. I like furry beasts, but they’re not really my thing. Fluffy is “comfort”, not “lewdness”.
“Of course! We’re here for you, Beat-sama! If you call us, we’re ready to help you!”
“No, I’m not ready yet! I’m not even an adult yet!?”
“Is that so? It’s a shame. …… Sirens are said to eat men after they are done making babies. According to records, a Siren’s nest that was defeated in the past contained the bones of over forty men, presumably sailors.”
Oh, scary, a spider! Is that supposed to be a nutritional supplement for childbirth? Indeed, a spider has all the nutrients it needs to give birth to a spider, but the spouse is in for a rough time. I’m glad I’m not a spider.
“I’ve heard that goblins breed by poisoning women into insanity, but sirens breed by enchanting them with the magic in their cries. So, if you don’t wear earplugs, you can be manipulated. It’s troublesome.”
“It’s good to know the Sirens are out there. Let’s get some earplugs and come back later.”
“Well, the landing is ready …”
“Oh! Someone is fighting!”
“… The arrow is flying”
The monitor showed several Sirens squeaking and flying around, and a number of arrows that seemed to have been aimed at them.
When I moved the camera to show the source of the arrows, I saw several men shooting arrows from a stranded ship. Are there people on this island? No. Maybe they washed up on a boat.
As one Siren swoops down and points both her claws at one of the men, the man commanding the rear interrupts and stops her with his upper swinging sword. It’s a pretty good move. I think he could shoot a high jump magic ball in the air.
The Siren, whose leg was cut off, was shot with a bow and fell into the sea when she tried to escape by rising.
The man with the sword warned the rejoicing men and had them fire arrows at another Siren who was approaching. Well, he can see his surroundings very well. Good command. The clothes he’s wearing are dirty, but they look good.
And then, suddenly, Cristela was fixated on the monitor, staring at the man.
“Oh, brother !?”
What, he is Aristo!? He’s really alive!?
